Lost & Found

There are so many fine books currently out of print. Why? It's not because they didn't sell, it's because they didn't sell enough to be economically re-printable. Until now, print on demand technology has been used to keep slow-selling titles in print. Faber Finds is shifting the emphasis from survival to revival - making good books available once more.

For the launch list Faber has canvassed its editors and authors for their suggestions. As we continue to grow the list, we'll be asking both writers and readers to nominate forgotten favourites. So we'd like now to hear from you, the reader – books can be fiction, memoir, poetry, autobiography, criticism, history, anthologies, science fiction, thrillers, and books for children. Let us know by emailing lostandfound@faber.co.uk.

Of course, we won't be able to guarantee that we will be able to bring particular books back into print. In many cases, books might still be in print with another publisher (but just hard to find). Or we might not be able to acquire the rights – or even track down the owner of the rights.

Launch List includes:

  • Camille Saint-Saens : by Brian Rees
  • A Personal Record :by Joseph Conrad
  • Wanderings in Arabia :by Charles M. Doughty
  • The Pocket Book of Poems and Songs for the Open Air :edited by Edward Thomas
  • The Story of My Heart :by Richard Jefferies
  • The Romantics :by Geoffrey Grigson
  • The Big Chapel :by Thomas Kilroy
  • The Great Tradition :by F. R. Leavis
  • Diderot :by P. N. Furbank
  • Hoping It Might Be So :by Kit Wright
  • Goethe’s Faust :by Louis MacNeice
  • English Country Songbook :edited by Roy Palmer

Faber Finds will be available from all good online bookshops and the Faber website from June 2008
